Cell phones a leading cause for drunk driving stops DUIAttorney.com
Drunk drivers are a serious threat to motorists everywhere in the country. That is fact. Recent studies have shown that texting and talking on a mobile phone are every bit as dangerous. DUI lawyers are noticing more and more people are getting arrested for drunk driving after getting stopped for a traffic infraction influenced by the use of a mobile device.
According to Columbus, Ohio DUI Lawyer and former police officer Dennis Evans , "the police officer who is on the look-out for persons driving under the influence of alcohol will use any reason available to stop a car."
Evans says that "one of the most frequent violations that our clients are stopped for are weaving across the marked lane. This is a different charge from driving left of center. We usually see our clients stopped for this charge when they are driving on a multi-lane freeway and will weave across one lane and then back into their original lane. Sometimes this is due to the use of alcohol but we frequently see the reason that people are pulled over for this violation is that they are on their cell phone. Whether they are talking or texting, the use of a cell phone while you are driving is both dangerous and in some states illegal."
