Miami Dolphins DE Phillip Merling Arrested For Aggravated Battery Football News Now
Miami Dolphins defensive end Phillip Merling was arrested for aggravated battery against a pregnant woman.
According to Tim Reynolds of The Canadian Press, Merling was arrested in Weston, Florida on Wednesday, then released from Broward County on Thursday on $15,000 bail. He was back at practice with the Dolphins on Friday.
He was ordered to have no contact with the woman, who is his girlfriend, along with normal bail restrictions like one forbidding him from possessing firearms while out on bond. Court records show she is two months pregnant with the couple’s second child.
Merling joins Ronnie Brown, Will Allen, and Tony McDaniel as the fourth Dolphin to be arrested this offseason. McDaniel was also arrested for spousal abuse, while Allen and Brown were arrested for DUI.
Coach Tony Sparano seemed content to let the system work before passing judgement.
“We’ll let the process play itself out,” Sparano said. “We’ll see what happens.”
