Bus driver charged with child endangering, DUI in charter crash Sandusky Register
Seven people suffered bumps and bruises Friday when an intoxicated Columbus man driving a charter bus full of students to Cedar Point swerved off the road.
Trooper John Maxey said Ronald L. Williams, 46, smelled strongly of alcohol. His blood alcohol concentration later tested at .103.
He was charged with child endangering, failure to control, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, and operating a commercial vehicle without a commercial driver’s license.
The crash occurred at 8:35 a.m. on Ohio 4, south of Ohio 547.
Williams drove a 2000 Ford owned by Columbus-based Eastern Horizon, one of the charter buses for Urban Express Transportation. Employees who answered the phone would not comment and hung up. The bus was part of a caravan taking students from Heritage Middle School in Hilliard to Cedar Point.
It veered off the left side of the road, near a wooded area, and hit a deep ditch. Williams managed to steer the vehicle back on the road. Debris from the wreckage of the undercarriage could be seen scattered about 75 feet down the road.
