Convicted killer to stand trial, accused of assault Leader-Telegram

CHIPPEWA FALLS - A convicted murderer who is charged with assaulting two men at a Chippewa Falls motel in July 2008 will be going to trial in August.

Arthur G. Simmons, 38, of Altoona faces seven felony charges for the assault. Simmons is accused of attacking the two men at 5 a.m. July 24, 2008, in their room at the Indianhead Motel, 501 Summit Ave., as they were getting ready to leave for a construction job. One victim was struck with a metal pipe tube, the police report states. The other victim was struck numerous times with a similar object.

Simmons was arrested in August and has been in the Chippewa County Jail since, facing felony charges for armed robbery, substantial battery with the intent of bodily harm, bail jumping and burglary. The trial is slated for Aug. 4-6.

According to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Simmons was convicted of second-degree murder in July 1986, when he was 16. He was waived into adult court. He was sentenced to nine years in prison, according to the bureau's Web site.

Paris Back in Court

Paris Hilton is no stranger to run-ins with the law. Today, the celebutante is back in court with more legal troubles. No, she's not on the hook for drunk driving again. This time, she is accused of not fully promoting her 2006 film 'Pledge This!' Imagine that -- Paris Hilton not promoting herself enough. Inconceivable!

The film's investors filed suit against Hilton for $8 million, claiming she didn't honor her contract to promote the DVD release. Though the film underperformed in the box office, the 28-year-old claims she tried her hardest to promote the film. Hilton is expected to testify in the Miami court tomorrow.

This is a tough week for Hilton, who lost a friend of hers on Friday. Kat McKenzie, 25, was a finalist on the TV show 'Paris Hilton's British Best Friend.' Hilton Twittered about the devastating news of McKenzie's death and expressed her sympathy for the family. The cause of McKenzie's sudden passing is currently unknown.
